Jacksonville University selected three finalists last week for its president job, which will open up when current President Kerry Romesburg retires in 2013.

The candidates include a former JU alumnus with corporate experience at Pepsi Co Inc., a national adviser to college and university presidents who is a former provost and a proponent of academic excellence who helped start a university in Texas, according to a news release.

The university will host community receptions, which are open to the public, for each finalist on campus Oct. 16, 17 and 19. The three finalists are:

  • John M. Beehler, founding vice president for Research, Economic Development and Public Engagement at the University of North Texas at Dallas, will be at JU Oct. 16.
  • Jayne Marie Comstock, director, Executive Leadership Group, American Council on Education, Washington, D.C., will be at JU Oct. 17.
  • Tim Cost, executive vice president/consultant, PepsiCo, will be at JU Oct. 19.

?These are our three choices from an excellent field of candidates who we feel have the best chance of leading Jacksonville University through its next chapter of growth,? JU Board of Trustees Chairman Ron Autrey said in a news release. ?The depth of their backgrounds and breadth of their skills make this one of the strongest group of finalists from among the strongest overall field of candidates that JU has ever experienced in a presidential search.?
