Sony Xperia Miro UK price revealed: Ice Cream Sandwich on a budget

Sony?s been busy of late. Ever since the brand managed to swallow up Ericsson it?s been pumping phones out of the factory gates left, right and centre. The Sony Xperia Miro is the latest in a long line of Xperia branded handsets, but ? for some, at least ? it might have just beaten the rest, thanks to both its OS number and a crazy-low price.

Make no bones about it: a Galaxy S3 rival, this is not. The Xperia Miro is aiming itself squarely at the budget market, with a lowly set of specs that place it at the bottom end of the 2012 Android phone market.

The Miro?s got a 3.5-inch display, a 5-Meg camera and single-core 800MHz Qualcomm processor. But that?s ok; there?s some clever Sony tech in the sound department, and the price is easy to swallow. UK retailer Clove has just announced its pre-order price, which is a measly ?126.

But while the specs aren?t much to shout about, what is a bit of a breakthrough for a Sony Xperia handset is the fact that the Miro comes with Android 4.0 out of the box. Sony?s working its collective fingers boneward to get Ice Cream Sandwich to the majortiy of its handset lineup, but the Miro will start up with the software installed, instantly putting it a step ahead of most of its brethren.

There?s currently no word from Sony on when it?ll make moves on getting Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) to its phones, but we suspect there?ll be a bit of a wait; the company is still deep in the throws of the last major update.

Still, for ?126, a Sony Xperia handset running Ice Cream Sandwich is a fairly solid deal.
