University of Arkansas Requests Feedback on Teacher Preparation

May, 2012

The professional education unit of the University of Arkansas, which includes three colleges on the Fayetteville campus, is seeking comments on its teacher-preparation programs as part of an accreditation visit by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.

The accreditation team will visit Fayetteville on Oct. 28-30. The College of Education and Health Professions is coordinating the visit and the application for continued accreditation. Federal regulations require that accrediting agencies allow for public comment on the qualifications of institutions or programs under consideration for initial accreditation or continued accreditation.

The university and the accrediting body recognize that graduates, parents, schools and community organizations have valuable perspectives on the quality of the programs that prepare teachers and other school personnel. Written comments may be sent to Board of Examiners, NCATE, 2010 Massachusetts Ave. NW, Suite 500, Washington, D.C. 20036-1023 or by email to callforcomments@ncate.org. Comments must address substantive matters related to the quality of professional educational programs offered and should specify the writer's relationship to the institution, such as graduate, current or former faculty member, or employer of graduates.

Comments are due by July 30.
