Chasing Shazam, SoundHound Quietly Passes 100M Users, Averaging 200K Downloads/Day

SoundhoundWith Shazam infiltrating our TVs, showing up in Super Bowl ads, and passing 200 million users, you just might think that the market has its music-identification king. But SoundHound would beg to differ. Just three days after Shazam's announcement, the music search and discovery app has responded by quietly releasing some numbers of its own. No official announcement, no hubbub, just a press release. Today, SoundHound announced that it has passed the 100 million users milestone -- and this, according to Vice President of SoundHound Katie McMahon, tallies the number of people who have actually used the app, not just those who downloaded it. What's more impressive is this: In January 2010, when it "rebranded," the app had 2 million users. Today, it has over 100 million and is averaging over 200,000 downloads per day on Android and iOS devices. Apparently, we never have any idea what song is playing. Ever.
