New York Mets Vs. Washington Nationals Final Score: Mets Drop Opener On Road, 6-4

The New York Mets dropped the first game of a weekend series against the Washington Nationals, 6-4 on Friday night. New York raced out to a fast 2-0 lead in the first inning off Nats' starter Ross Detwiler, but after Washington scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth, they never relinquished the lead.

Mets' ace Johan Santana was roughed up for six runs through only five innings of work and took the loss. He struck out four, but allowed two long balls to Michael Morse and rookie phenom Bryce Harper. For Harper, it was his 11th home run of the season.

There were a few bright spots for New York offensively, though. Outfielder Scott Hairston was 3-4 with a double and catcher Kelly Shoppach hit his first home run of the season. But in the end, the Mets fell just short and will hope to bounce back in the second game.
